Reading Approach
Since reading is a skill that must be taught, time needs to be allotted for reading lessons in the school day. Because reading is such a fundamental skill for future academic success, it should be prioritized and taught every single day for no less than 1 hour. Lessons should be objective-driven and should incorporate an activity that allows teachers to assess to what extent all students have achieved the objective and what may need review and re-teaching in subsequent lessons. In order for teachers to do this, lessons must include time for students to be active participants in the lesson and have an opportunity to demonstrate their learning.
