The quality of education is strongly associated with adequate, qualified and competent teachers, and teaching quality that should be authenticated. The overall situation in Pakistan underlines the demand for establishing a formal set up for accreditation as well as certification and licensing of teachers. The Pakistan Reading Project is building upon initiatives of other projects by facilitating provincial and regional departments of education to identify needs, rationale, objectives, structural and organizational set-up for setting up certification and licensing authorities. This includes identifying financial needs and funding sources, essential staff requirement, functions of the authority, and criteria for teachers’ certification and licensing. Teacher licensing road maps are being developed through a consultative process by the provincial and regional steering committees.
