USAID-funded Pakistan Reading Project developed a weekly education radio series in Urdu and Pashto targeting early grade readers and their teachers, families, and caregivers to complement community-based activities through heightened social awareness on the importance of reading. The RADIO SERIES, based on a Pashto language program, “Guloona” (Flowers), broadcast in multiple regions, features the practice of words in songs that assist in learning new words and concepts, and popular stories and fables that stimulate students to learn new words. The purpose of the radio series is to introduce letters in a fun format for children with songs and skits, and build family support within the child’s home for children learning to read, and reading.
